My First Asteroid


The asteroid Dembowska was in the star field of the Leo Triplet at magnitude 10.8.   The left picture is annotated with star labels.  The right picture is an animation showing two frames taken 1 hour and 40 minutes apart.




The system used to take the pictures on this page includes:
A very cool thing: using the Macintosh's OS X 10.5 "screen sharing" feature (and/or vnc on 10.4) I can remotely monitor and control the camera and mount from inside the house!

Here is a comparison of the results from a standard and modified Canon Digital Rebel:  The same object with the same set of exposures and my making the best picture I can in both cases:
